W-ISH India in the Netherlands

01/04/08 — Four young people and one adult leader from W-ISH India were the guests of ISH in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from 16 to 27 April 2008. For ten days, they attended workshops in the areas of interest of ISH in order to improve their skills and to pass them on to other young people in India. A visit is planned for another group in the autumn and ISH will travel to India once again for a return visit.
These exchanges should provide the Indian youngsters with the basis for establishing an institute with W-ISH to produce workshops, presentations and performances for and by other Indian young people.

In October 2006, at the initiative of Kinderpostzegels, some ISH members and Dutch youngsters set off for Bangalore, India, as part of an exchange project. For two weeks, Indian young people from difficult social backgrounds were able to attend workshops, put on a performance and go on various excursions. It turned out to be a success, because after the departure of ISH, eight Indian youngsters continued to put into practice all they had learned. They wanted to establish their own ISH institute in India. Their enthusiasm to continue independently was such that ISH was inspired to maintain its support for them. As a result, in cooperation with Kinderpostzegels, W-ISH became a fact and the Indian youngsters were able to make their dream come true.
