The Children's Wallet

Children decide where the money goes

For years, children have been actively involved in helping their peers through the Children's Stamp Campaign. They enjoy volunteering and understand how important it is: children helping each other. We're always looking for ways to get children even more involved in everything we do.

That's why the Kinderpostzegels (Children's Wallet) was created: a unique initiative by Kinderpostzegels that allows children to choose the destination of a special fund. With this innovative approach, children not only contribute ideas, but also actually decide where the Kinderpostzegels money goes! After all, who knows better what's important to children than children themselves?

Every year, children help us decide how best to distribute the money from the Children's Wallet. Thousands of children in four different countries have already contributed. Thanks to their input, we've been able to help thousands more children with the themes they've chosen.

The Children's Wallet has three objectives:

Meebeslissen

Children have a significant voice, and their choices have consequences. They learn that their opinions and ideas are valuable and that they can play a role in decision-making on issues that directly affect them.

Kennis vergroten

By thinking about social themes and discussing problems, children broaden their view of the world.

Iets doen voor een ander

Children experience what it's like to dedicate themselves to helping others. This increases their resilience and teaches them to be active and engaged citizens.

Unique way of involving children

Allowing children to participate in discussions and decision-making on this scale is unique. "Children's voices are incredibly important to us," says Sofie Vriends. "We are the charity organization with and for children. We know that children are passionate about helping other children. These aren't just principles on paper. We act on them. We encourage children to share their thoughts on which issues are important to other children. We see that participating in the Children's Wallet contributes to children's empathy and self-esteem. And they actually decide where the money goes. That's unprecedented on this scale. It allows children to help each other in a very concrete way."

“There are children who don't feel safe, and I'm glad I can help them.”
