Unique way of involving children
Allowing children to participate in discussions and decision-making on this scale is unique. "Children's voices are incredibly important to us," says Sofie Vriends. "We are the charity organization with and for children. We know that children are passionate about helping other children. These aren't just principles on paper. We act on them. We encourage children to share their thoughts on which issues are important to other children. We see that participating in the Children's Wallet contributes to children's empathy and self-esteem. And they actually decide where the money goes. That's unprecedented on this scale. It allows children to help each other in a very concrete way."
The Children's Wallet has three objectives:
Co-decision-making
Children have a significant voice, and their choices have consequences. They learn that their opinions and ideas are valuable and that they can play a role in decision-making on issues that directly affect them.
Increasing knowledge
By thinking about social themes and discussing problems, children broaden their view of the world.
to take action
Kinderen ervaren hoe het is om zich in te zetten voor een ander. Hierdoor vergroten ze hun veerkracht en het leert hen om actieve en betrokken burgers te zijn.
Kids rule!
With the Children's Wallet, children not only think along, but actively decide where the money from Kinderpostzegels goes!
“There are children who don't feel safe, and I'm glad I can help them.”
Regional, national & international
In addition to our national approach, the Kinderwallet is also active in West Africa and India. We also work with a regional Kinderwallet. Thanks to a generous contribution from Fonds 1818, we organized workshops in South Holland. Children in this region brainstormed about how to distribute the funds specifically for the South Holland region. The Kinderwallet operates slightly differently in each country:

West Africa
In the neighborhood, at school, and in youth clubs, children think about what's needed for the children in their neighborhood. Thanks to the Children's Wallet, they can immediately make a difference for their peers.

India
The Children's Wallet in India ensures that the Youth Clubs not only think about how they can help others, but also teach the young people to carry out the projects themselves

in practice
What happens to the money from the Kids' Wallet?
In 2025, 28% of the children participating in the Children's Wallet initiative indicate that a safe place for children is the most important thing to them. A place where they can be themselves and relax. Therefore, part of the money from the Children's Wallet goes to various projects for children who lack a safe foundation.
