At the end of September, the children's panel visited the Baarn asylum seekers' center. This center primarily houses young people who came to the Netherlands without their parents. The children's panel was given a tour by a young person with lived experience and a glimpse into the lives of the young people who live there.
Beforehand, the children thought about the question: “What makes a place a nice place to live?”
Their answers were clear: peace, being able to retreat, a room of their own, a safe neighborhood where they can play and know their neighbors. With these thoughts in mind, they walked through the asylum center, where these things are not a given.
A special and educational experience for the entire panel.
