The Children's Wallet

The Kinderwallet in India is an initiative focused on supporting children from vulnerable communities. In collaboration with local partners, Youth Clubs are established where children meet in a fixed location, such as a classroom or a central location in their town or city. Here, they learn to form their own opinions, discuss problems, and recognize stress. They also receive training in good leadership and how to discuss important topics with adults to achieve their goals.

The Kinderwallet in India empowers young people to participate in decision-making and expand their knowledge. They initiate and implement projects themselves, helping others and improving their skills in project management and social issues.

Curious about how this came about?

In this 2.5-minute video, you'll get an overview of the process surrounding this unique method, and children will explain how they arrived at their choice.

A safe washing place for girls

The members of the Child Club in Bagdiani were concerned: there was no safe place in their village where girls could wash themselves. This led to discomfort and health risks. Therefore, they decided to use the Children's Wallet to create a walled, safe washing area at a spring near the village. Girls and women can now wash themselves safely here.

The result changed the daily lives of girls in Bagdiani. They feel more confident, and their hygiene and health have improved. At the same time, the children developed important skills in collaboration, problem-solving, and leadership.
The project shows that when children are given trust and space, they come up with surprisingly strong and sustainable solutions for challenges in their community.

The Child's Wallet abroad

In addition to the approach in India, Kinderportemonnee is also active in the Netherlands and West Africa. In each country, Kinderportemonnee operates a little differently:

West Africa

In de wijk, op school en in jeugdclubs denken kinderen na wat er nodig is voor de kinderen in de buurt. Dankzij de Kinderportemonnee kunnen zij direct iets voor hun leeftijdsgenootjes betekenen

The Netherlands

Kinderen uit groep 6, 7 en 8 denken tijdens interactieve workshops in de klas mee hoe het geld van de Kinderportemonnee verdeeld moet worden.

Growing up safely. That should be a given.

Give and help children who grow up in unsafe situations.
